How do you stop someone from downward spiraling, without going with them? It's like Nick is on the merry-go-round at the park and he's crying and I know he needs to be stopped but every time I try to grab the bars, I make it go faster or he pulls away or someone else offers him a better ride, so then he is gone again.
Last night on Facebook, I found out he is engaged. Engaged. All I could think of are all the things he really is engaged in: stupidity, poverty, foolishness, cruelty, drug use. The last thing that comes to mind is engaged to be married. It is so utterly preposterous that it could only be what he is actually thinking right now. And to announce it to his family via Facebook is such classic avoidance, to get the message out there without having to accept any responsibility or feedback. When I asked if she was pregnant, he was offended. My bad.
So timeline: Aug 15 I take him grocery shopping and spend $250. Aug 16 I hear he is using and dealing, I confront him on the phone. Aug 17 I go to the police to try to have him arrested. They say it will take 24-48 hours. Aug 18 he leaves the state. 4 days later he is engaged but still unemployed and asking me to send him money for food. And around and around he goes.
